The Life And Times Of Michael Hamburger

Do you DREAM BIG??? Think back when you were a kid, probably a teenager, and you would be in class. You were thinking about what life would be like when you were an adult & in the "Real World". Do you remember fading off and daydreaming? Are you living the life you thought of back then? If you are, congrats my friend, as you are among a very slim number. The majority of the people I have studied tell me that they are NOT living the life they envisioned for themselves.
Let me share something with you. Not only am I living the life I dreamed up for myself back in 2003, I have far exceed my own expectations. A few weeks ago I was on the phone with a guy who was just getting started with our team. The gentleman asked me if the business had lived up to my expectations. His question really got me thinking. I shared with him the impact his question had had on me. How we dreamed up this life & now we are living it. Pretty simple yet pretty powerful.

Back when I was a freshman in college I was thumbing through the campus newspaper when I stumbled across a short poem that would have a major impact on how I viewed life & how I lived life. It was in that moment that I adopted the title of the poem as my life motto, DREAM BIG.

I cut out a copy of the poem and carried it in my wallet during college. When I left for Marine Corps boot camp at Parris Island, I carried a copy with my stuff & placed a beaten copy in my cover during graduation. When I was stationed in the desert a copy went with me.

Later in my "real world" career, I placed a copy on my desk at every job I have ever held. Back in March 2003 when Leslie & I started our own business, a copy was on my desk in our little 2 bedroom apartment. I have had a copy with me when we moved to the beach in Santa Monica & both of our homes in Scottsdale, AZ.

DREAM BIG

If there were ever a time to dare,
To make a difference,
To embark on something worth doing,
It is now.
Not for any grand cause, necessarily,
But for something that tugs at your heart,
Something that's your aspiration,
Something that's your dream.
You owe it to yourself, to make your days here count.
Have fun.
Dig deep.
Stretch.

DREAM BIG
Know, though, things worth doing seldom come easy.
There will be good days,
And there will be times when you want to turn around,
Pick it up,
And call it quits.
These times tell you that you are pushing yourself,
That you are not afraid to learn by trying.

PERSIST
Because with an idea,
Determination,
And the right tools,
You can do great things.
Let your instincts,
Your intellect,
And your heart guide you.

TRUST
Believe in the incredible power of the human mind.
Of doing something that makes a difference.
Of working hard,
Of laughing and hoping,
Of lazy afternoons,
Of lasting friends,
Of all the things that will cross your path this year.
The start of something new,
Brings the hope of something great.
Anything is possible.
There is only one you,
And you will pass this way only once.
